BEYOND THOSE BARS (BTB) IS A PROJECT AND LEARNER-BASED ASSESSABLE CULTURAL ENRICHMENT THAT UTILIZES HIP-HOP CULTURE AND AFRICAN-CENTERED CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT MODALITIES THAT ARE CULTURALLY RELEVANT AND RESPONSIVE TO A DIVERSE POPULATION OF STUDENTS.
THE CLIENT NEEDED A REIMAGINING OF THE PROGRAM BRAND THAT WAS USEABLE ACROSS THE SCHOOL SYSTEM AND MULTIPLE TYPES OF MEDIA WHILE REPRESENTING THE COMPLETE NATURE OF THE PROGRAM ITESLF.

SANKIFA RITES OF PASSAGE (SROPI) IS AN AFRICAN-CENTERED DEVELOPMENT PROCESS THAT TEACHES PRACTICAL LIFE SKILLS, CULTURAL PRIDE, CIVIC RESPONSIBILITY, AND A POSITIVE SELF-IDENTIFICATION.
THE CLIENT NEEDED A CULTURALLY RESPONSIVE BRAND IDENTITY THAT REFLECTED THE PRIMARY DIRECTIVES OF THE COHORT PROGRAM. THROUGH COLABORATIVE CREATIVE PROCESSES, IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE BRAND NEEDED A SENSE OF HERITAGE AND LONGEVITY WHILE DENOTING A CERTAIN LEVEL OF MODERNITY.
THE MARK FEATURES THE ADINKRA SYMBOL, "DWENNIMMEN." DWINNIMMEN REPRESENTS TWO INTERLOCKED RAMS HORNS - SYMBOLIZING STRENGTH (IN MIND, BODY, AND SOUL), HUMILITY, WISDOM, AND LEARNING.
